Week 7 Progress

This week, the team focused on refining the game concepts and the mechanics based on the feedback that the team received from the first play-test presentation. In addition, the team began working towards the second play-test such as level design, better and smoother animations and also adding and building more animations and mechanics.

My task this week was to edit and implement the new attack animations for the main character. The new attack animations consist of four different stages as opposed to the old animations shown in the first play-test which only has three. In addition, we added a new targeting system for the game that allows the player to lock onto the closest enemy target with the camera while the camera still stays behind the character. Although the targeting system is working the way we wanted it to be, there are still some bugs that we will continue to fix for the upcoming week. I also edited the UI for the enemy health bar to be on top of the enemy instead of the screen. This allows the player to differentiate between which health bar is for which enemy because we are going to have multiple enemies throughout the game. Furthermore, we also fixed the camera when the player is attacking. In the first play-test the character attacks in the direction that the character is facing. However, based on the feedback we received, it doesn't feel smooth for the combat system that we have in our game. Therefore, at the current moment, the character attacks in the direction that the camera is facing. Some other things that are added are the stuns on the character when she is hit by the bullets to make it more punishing for the player and also the death animations for the character when her health reaches zero.

Some problems still remain with the targeting system that was added to the game, therefore, I will continue to work on fixing the problems in the upcoming week. In addition, there are many more tasks that need to be completed for next week such as adding enemies with animations, character attacks with magic, particle systems, and the first couple of levels also needs to be implemented.
