Week 1 Progress
During week 1, our team SquareOne was able to figure out the general narrative story line for the game and also wrote a complete game proposal to show the TA and the prof during the green light review. We decided to build a game with the main character name Noah. The game is a real time combat system RPG. However, we also have two other secondary mechanics such as the bullet hell and puzzle solving for our players to experience. The setting of the game will take place in Noah's memory in a digital world. Therefore, the colour scheme we are going for are more of a monotone colour (black and white).
My main contribution this week was to write the game proposal based on the team's discussion during team meetings. I also contributed mainly in the overall story and the mechanics of the game. Things like the rewarding system is quite important when we want the players to feel that what they are doing or killing has a purpose. The rewarding systems in our game are the story line that will reveal to the player after they complete a certain area of the map and potion system that monsters and some areas will give the player a chance to pick up potion essences. Me and one of the team member also designed 3 weapons that the player can use throughout the game -sword, great sword, and spear. The 3 weapons will allow the player to perform different types of skills enhancing the player's experience depending on the player's play style.
My major concern right now is the programming part of the overall game. My role in the team is programmer. However, I have no experience coding 3-D real time combat actions yet. My next assignment for myself is to learn Unity 3-D and follow tutorials online on coding 3-D objects with collision detection.
